In this passage Paul encourages us to come prepared to share what the Lord of the ekklesia - assembly or gathering of believers which is His body has laid on each person’s heart. The thought is that each one has brought something to edify the others. (Not a mandatory thing, but an encouragement for each and every one of us to be free to do so in order that we may all be edified (built up and encouraged).
‘Under his [Christ’s] control all the different parts of the body fit together, and the whole body is held together by every joint with which it is provided. So when each separate part works as it should, the whole body grows and builds itself up through love.’ Ephesians 4:16
In this regard, let us all ‘seek to excel… to the edifying of the ekklesia –the assembly or gathering of the body’.
‘Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church [ekklesia –gathering, assembly].’ 1 Corinthians 14:12 KJV
